Suicide is now the biggest killer of men under the age of 40. A mistaken need to be strong, to put others need first and to maintain the stiff upper lip is literally killing a generation of young males throughout the Western world. As male therapists we hope to bring an intrinsic understanding of the unique pressures men face, both in relationships and in the workplace.
Although we work with both male and female clients, we are aware of how difficult it can be for men to take the first step in asking for help
How many times have you heard phrases like “boys don’t cry” or “keep a stiff upper lip”? Men grow up believing that showing emotion or asking for help is a sign of weakness. So many masculine environments from the Boardroom to the sports field still perpetuate this myth.
Men are as prone to depression and anxiety as woman but because we are less likely to ask for help the suffering often goes unnoticed. There are some things it’s difficult to say – even to your best mate.
We promise to work with you in an open and non-judgemental manner. Together we can work towards overcoming the obstacles you face.
