General
Anger Management is a broad term that encompasses a number of interventions to help people cope with problem anger. We have deliberately used the term “problem anger” because we understand that not all anger is problematic.
This is actually the first thing we teach in our training. Anger is a perfectly natural human emotion that everyone feels at some time or other. For people with problem anger this emotion is expressed in inappropriate ways. Perhaps violent or aggressive, or maybe sulky and withdrawn.
Anger Management is not about teaching you to be passive or to let people “walk over” you. Our aim is to help you find new and creative ways to solve the problem situations that are currently triggering your anger.
Anger Management is most often taught in small groups although individual options are also available. At Emerge Therapy I also offer a powerful online course. You should expect a course to offer 10-12 hours of training.
Any anger management course should cover the following points as a minimum requirement:
My programme “6 Steps to Breat Your Anger”course has been developed from my experience as a working therapist. I go beyond simple anger management to offer you psychological models that will give you real life skills that are applicable far beyond controlling your anger.
On my programme you will learn:
Does Anger Management Work?
Very little research has been carried out on outcomes from anger management programmes nationally although most participants will say they received benefit from attending. The limited research does suggest that a well designed anger management course will be effective in both the medium and long term at reducing the symptoms and expression of problem anger.
I take outcomes very seriously. I know that if you come to my anger management course you are investing time, effort and money into making personal change. Maybe your relationship is at stake? Or your career? I want you to succeed.
Every participant on the 6 Steps to Beat Your Anger Course is asked to complete an assessment that helps me measure their anger.
As a result I know that participants on my course have a significant reduction in anger on completion of the 6 week programme. I also know that they report feeling more confident and have higher self-esteem. I take a real delight in helping our participants make real improvements in their lives
